Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Answers about Librarius and how to get the most from the app.

General

What is Librarius?

Librarius is a reader community on app and web: it helps paper books move through swaps and sales agreed between people, hosts book clubs with public pages, and supports literary meetups in your city. You can also track your library, lists, and reading progress.

Is Librarius free?

Yes: downloading the app and using core features does not require a subscription or card. If paid options appear later, stores would ask before charging. Today the focus is clubs, events, swaps, and a personal library without a paywall.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes, to sync your account, catalog, clubs, and messages across devices. Librarius is not an offline e-book reader: it is a network for paper-book readers with data in the cloud.

What can I do on the web vs only in the app?

On librarius.app you can browse the catalog, profiles, clubs, events, guides, and calculators without installing anything. Creating an account, joining a club, posting, chat, selling, or swapping books happens in the iOS or Android app.

Which languages does Librarius support?

The app and site are available in Spanish, English, and Portuguese at /es, /en, and /pt. You can change language in settings; marketing pages and blog guides are published in all three.

Swaps and sales

How do I list a book to sell or swap?

In the app, pick a title from your library or search the catalog, mark it available, describe condition using Librarius scale, and optionally add a suggested price. The listing appears in the marketplace; other readers message you in chat.

Does Librarius charge fees or process payments?

No. Librarius has no checkout and does not hold money: price, payment, and handoff are agreed between readers. The app helps you meet and talk, not act as an online store.

Can I ship books by mail through Librarius?

Librarius does not handle shipping or labels. Many swaps are in-person in the same city; if you agree to mail a book, you arrange it outside the app at your own responsibility.

How do I describe a used book’s condition?

Use the condition scale on the listing (like new, very good, signs of use, etc.) and add detail in text if needed. Being clear avoids disputes; the blog has a guide on describing used books.

How do I remove a listing after I sold or swapped?

From the listing or your library, mark the book unavailable or remove the price. It helps to tell anyone who messaged you in chat so open threads close cleanly.

Safety at meetups

Where should I meet to hand off a book?

Prefer busy places in daylight: cafés, squares, library entrances, or transit hubs. Librarius recommends inspecting the book before finishing the swap and telling someone you trust if it is your first time meeting that person.

What if someone does not show up or makes me uncomfortable?

You can report the profile in the app and contact support. Do not share bank details in chat with strangers. For harassment or threats, keep screenshots and contact local authorities if needed.

What personal data should I share for a swap?

Only what you need to set time and place in Librarius chat. You do not need to share your home address on a first meetup. Read the privacy policy to see what your public profile shows.

Can minors use Librarius?

Sign-up requires meeting the minimum age in the terms. If you run a club or event with teens, get guardian permission and set clear meetup rules. See the terms and responsible-use policy.

Book clubs

How do I create a book club on Librarius?

In the app, open clubs and the create flow: name, description, visibility, and optional rules. Your club gets a public page on the web so readers can discover it without a closed chat group.

How do I join an existing club?

Search clubs by city or topic in the app or on the public site. Depending on club policy, you join instantly or send a request the organizer approves. Notifications tell you when you are accepted.

Who moderates a club?

The creator and users with management permissions can invite, approve requests, and edit the page. The club wall holds announcements and discussion; set norms on spoilers and speaking turns.

Can my club be private?

Yes. You can limit visibility and invitations for closed groups. Members still access the wall and linked events from the app.

How do we pick the next club book?

Librarius club polls let you propose two to eight titles and vote. The decision stays visible for members who join the chat later.

Meetups and events

How do I publish a literary event?

In the app, create an event with title, date, map location, and format (silent reading, swap, readathon, etc.). It can link to a club or stay open. The page is public on the web for nearby readers.

What meetup formats exist?

Librarius offers predefined formats (silent reading, blind date with a book, express swap, readathon, bookstore route, and more). Each format shapes the page so you can explain in one line what will happen.

How does the events map work?

When you create an event you set an approximate location or meeting point. Other readers explore nearby events in the app. Always double-check the final address on the page before leaving home.

What if I cancel an event?

Organizers can cancel or edit from event settings. Post on the club wall or chat so nobody travels for nothing. Attendees get notices based on their notification settings.

Can I invite my club to an event?

Yes. Link events to the club and share the public URL. That mixes club regulars with readers who find the event on the map.

Community and reviews

How do I write a review on Librarius?

From a book page in the app you can post a rating and text. Reviews appear on your public profile and help other readers; avoid unmarked spoilers when you can.

What are ephemeral stories?

Short posts around your reading (a quote, page photo, quick thought) that disappear after a while. They share reading rhythm without writing a long post.

How do I mark spoilers?

Use spoiler warnings when the app offers them on reviews or posts. In clubs, agree in rules whether endings can be discussed before everyone finishes.

Can I follow other readers?

Yes. Follow reader, library, or bookstore profiles and see relevant activity in the feed. You control visibility in privacy settings.

Account and privacy

How do I delete my account?

From profile settings in the app you can request deletion. It is permanent for data tied to your user. If you do not see the option in your version, contact support via the contact form.

Will I lose my books if I change phones?

No, if you sign in with the same account. Library, lists, and clubs sync when you connect. Install from the official store for security updates.

Who sees my library and lists?

It depends on privacy settings and content type. Some lists are only yours; others visible to followers. Check settings and the privacy policy for legal detail.

How do I contact support?

Use the contact form on this site or write to librarius1.app@gmail.com. Include your device model and which screen fails if it is a technical issue.

How do I sign out everywhere?

Sign out in settings on each device or change your password if you suspect unauthorized access. If you use Apple or Google sign-in, review those providers too.

Price and platforms

Which devices support Librarius?

Free native apps for iPhone and iPad (App Store) and Android (Google Play). The website adds public browsing; it does not replace the app for social actions.

Are there paid or premium plans?

Today the features in this FAQ are free in the app. Any future pricing change would be announced in stores and on the site; we do not hide subscriptions in sign-up.

Is download safe?

Download only from App Store or Google Play by searching the official Librarius name. Links from librarius.app go to those stores. Avoid third-party APKs.

Why does the app ask me to update?

We ship improvements and fixes. Sometimes the server requires a minimum version for security. Update from the store; if you cannot, email support with your phone model.

Comparisons

Does Librarius replace Goodreads?

Not entirely: Goodreads holds millions of global reviews in English. Librarius adds clubs with pages, mapped events, chat, and reader-to-reader sales or swaps in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Many people use both.

Why not stay on a WhatsApp group only?

WhatsApp works for quick pings but lacks a public club page, shared reading history, or discovery for new members. Librarius adds structure visible on the web alongside chat.

How is it different from Meetup?

Meetup is generic for any meetup type. Librarius targets literary formats, book pages, clubs, and a used-book marketplace in one ecosystem.
